Green agenda for Serbia - Circular economy means sustainable future.

Date: December 2, 2020
Time: 11:00 - 13:00
Location: Belgrade

Unlike the extractive industrial take-do-discard model that dominates the industrial system, the circular economy seeks to redefine growth, focusing on the positive benefits that preserving products, equipment and infrastructure and their longer use can bring to society. All "waste" is "food" in the circular economy. The circular economy is one of the most important aspects of the European Green Agreement, which was presented by the European Commission at the end of last year. The EU has set an ambitious agenda and goals in this area, such as making sustainable products the norm in the EU, empowering consumers, as well as the sectors that use the most resources and where the potential for a circular economy is great and ensuring less waste, how this type of economy would bring real benefits to citizens, regions and cities, and how the EU would lead global efforts towards a circular economy.

When it comes to waste management and recycling, Serbia is at the very beginning of this process, European Commission reports show. What is the stake for Serbia in this domain, on its path to the EU? How can its economy benefit if it meets EU standards in waste management and recycling? What are the benefits of the circular economy for the citizens of Serbia?
